Job Description

Putting People First

At NL Group, we are committed to making homecare better for everyone — our colleagues, the individuals we support, and the dedicated carers who deliver high-quality care every day.

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and motivated Learning Disabilities Nurse to join our dedicated clinical team. The successful candidate will provide specialist nursing support to individuals with learning disabilities and complex additional needs, ensuring that care is safe, effective, person-centred, and compliant with relevant clinical and regulatory standards.

This is a predominantly office-based role, although clinical visits and direct clinical support may be required depending on service needs.

Working Pattern

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with unpaid breaks.

  • Every other Saturday, replacing one weekday shift.

  • Participation in an on-call rota.

  • Provision of 24-hour cover as required, included as part of the salary.

Clinical Leadership and Team Management

  • Coordinate and oversee the activities of clinical team members involved in delivering care to service users, under the supervision of the Clinical Lead.

  • Work closely with Care Coordinators to regularly review service users’ clinical needs and ensure appropriate staffing and clinical support are in place.

  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of clinical team members through verbal or written supervision and performance reviews at 30 days, 90 days, and annually, in accordance with company procedures.

  • Produce accurate and comprehensive records of supervision sessions, identifying individual development needs and recommending appropriate training where necessary.

Clinical Support and Care Planning

  • Provide education, guidance, and support to service users, families, and carers in managing long-term ventilation and other complex care needs within the home environment.

  • Assess prospective service users to determine their clinical needs and suitability for the services provided.

  • Develop, implement, and review individualised care plans and risk assessments to ensure safe and effective care delivery.

  • Conduct ongoing clinical reviews, update care documentation, and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to maintain high standards of care and support.

  • Provide clinical guidance and support to colleagues to promote safe, consistent, and evidence-based practice.

Clinical Governance and Regulatory Compliance

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of clinical governance standards across NL Group, with particular emphasis on learning disabilities and complex care.

  • Ensure clinical policies, procedures, and practices remain aligned with current legislation, regulatory requirements, and professional guidance.

  • Identify opportunities to develop and improve clinical policies and procedures to enhance quality, compliance, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Maintain professional practice in accordance with the requirements and guidance of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and relevant Integrated Care Boards (ICBs).

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, safeguarding, and high-quality person-centred care.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as an Adult Nurse or Children's Nurse.

  • A degree-level qualification.

  • Substantial experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and additional complex needs.

  • Strong clinical knowledge and demonstrable competence in clinical practice.

  • Previous experience in respiratory care, intensive care, or community-based complex care settings.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with service users, families, colleagues, and external professionals.

  • Strong listening skills and an empathetic, person-centred approach.

  • Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with a methodical approach and strong attention to detail.

  • A full, valid driving licence and the ability to drive, as travel is essential to the role.
